Some figures on the employment of Haitians in the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Ministry of Labour presented a study in early February of the Observatory of the labor market, on "The Haitian immigrants and the labor market" in the sectors of construction and banana, this study finds that 53% of workers in construction and 47% are Dominicans. An even more important percentage in banana where 63% of workers are Haitian. It is noted in this study that if 53.6% of our compatriots who work in the Dominican Republic hope one day return to their country, 19.3% asserts wanting to live permanently in the Dominican Republic and has no plans to return to live in Haiti.

New public square in Port-à-Piment
Me Thierry Mayard-Paul, the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and National Defence, announced the imminent opening of a public square in the town of Port-à-Piment n the Southern Department. This initiative of 900.000 gourdes, funded by the Ministry of Interior, falls within the framework of government efforts to improve the living conditions of Haitians through projects with social and economic character.
