Announced in early February by the mayor of Port-au-Prince, Yves Musacadin Jason, the Carnival of Port-au-Prince which should be held under the theme "Ann rekonstwi Potoprens ansanm" and that the mayor was to organize, will not take place for lack of funds. In a press note, the mayor explains

"Given the fact that the Ministry of Culture and Communication and the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities and National Defense, did not react to the grant request of Carnival 2012 of Port-au-Prince respectively addressed in date of December 29, 2011 and January 9, 2012;

Given the negative response of some private companies explaining that the government has centralized all funds of the Carnival 2012;

Given the unequivocal notice of the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities and National Defense (Government of the Republic of Haiti) which has not responded on the loan request of the City Council to save the carnival 2012 of Port-au-Prince dated February 16, 2012;

Given the fact that, firstly, the players - on the other hand, the participants of carnival waiting for a response of the municipal administration on the holding or cancellation of the Carnival 2012 of Port-au-Prince;
Given the fact of irreducible expenses for logistics and staging of Carnival 2012 (art-security-assistance-parades and other) and the funds necessary to the achievement of carnival festivities to Port-au-Prince.

Given the fact that the City does not have the means to meet the budget of 50 million gourdes of the Organizing Committee of Carnival 2012 of Port-au-Prince;

The municipal administration informs ALL those interested in the question that it decided to show solidarity with the participants of carnival to ask to the public security and civil protection to put in place units to support the actors on the courses they have decided, particularly on the Champs de Mars.

It is asked to the services of the City and all stakeholders in the carnival (walking bands, disguised bands, associations etc...) to kindly inform the mayor of Port-au-Prince and the Haiti National Police of their route in order to set up security units and of assistance to their disposition.

The City Council solemnly invites all stakeholders, participants in the Carnival, inhabitants of Port-au-Prince, to observe this regulation and to remain vigilant in these times of struggle to save the Carnival of Port-au-Prince that we must continue with dignity and respect of right of other to autonomy.

Vive Port-au-Prince
Vive the Carnival of Port-au-Prince
Another Port-au-Prince is Possible. We must build it TOGETHER."
