Haiti - Culture : The couple Martelly, crown the Queen and the King of Carnival 2012 20/02/2012 07:40:26 Queens and Kings, 27 girls and 5 boys, from different cities of the Southern Department, such as Port-Salut, Cayes, Camp-Perrin, Cavaillon, St-Louis du Sud, Aquin... have promoted the department and the many tourist and cultural attractions. It is the cayenne Sophia Jean Jacques, in 2nd year of Administrative Sciences at the Public University of the South (UPSAC) who was crowned Queen of Queens of Carnival 2012 and Erick Jocelyn, student in the final year, at the Educational Center of Les Cayes, crowned King of kings. The evening took place in a festive atmosphere and of passion of Carnival. Twenty personalities of the Southern Department, including members of the National committee and local of Carnival, local authorities including the Mayor of Port-Salut, have attended the presentation of trophies at the Queen and at King of Carnival 2012 and at their coronation. Saturday afternoon, the President Martelly, after a long conversation with Jean Gabriel Fortuné, Delegate resigned from the southern region, around the various concerns of the area in term of tourism and sustainable development, the Head of State accompanied by the First Lady, visited the places of departure and of arrival of musical floats and allegorical and monitored the final preparations before being welcomed to the official stand, by a jubilant crowd. The President Martelly nvited the Haitian people, and all local festival goers, the kings and queens, models, stylists, architects, musicians and all those who have contributed to achieving the first national carnival of Les Cayes, to shine the beauty and the depth of Haitian culture, in serenity and peace, during the three fat days.
