Haiti - Social : The President Martelly to Arcahaie (speech) 18/05/2012 14:53:58
Excerpts from the speech of President Martelly: "[...] Ladies and gentlemen, Haitian people, people of Arcahaie which is under the sun, May 18, 1803, here in Arcahaie, the needle of Catherine Flon has materialized the union of the children of Haiti. This sublime dream that our ancestors had to maintain and consolidate our existence as a State-Nation. It is true that the conflict made us lose the road that has been paved for us to allow us to move forward, despite everything, every time that the timing was bad, the gathering took us on the right path, the path of the victory. It is the President Estimé that made singing the Haitian schoolchildren 'lets erase the financial guardianship, pay the 5 million'... he cents collected from our students have contributed greatly to the financial liberalization that we experienced at the time. It is in this idea, the same way that President Estimé, I asked the people of Haiti, the diaspora to help me create the National Fund for Education (FNE). Yes we are poor but we are great when we are united, yes we stand right and people do not scare us, when we are side by side with each other. It is this solidarity that was our engine on 12 January 2010, where every Haitian, has help as he could, to save a brother, to save a sister. Unfortunately for us, should we wait special moments, crucial moments, to let speak and act that sense of unity so present in our subconscious ? Should we not make of it the fundamental axis of our daily lives, the common thread from which we should think and realize our development ? Yes, why, why we must wait for disasters ? Why we have to wait for the misfortunes to put us together ? Why we do not let our heart speak ? Since I know what the gathering can bring, I have to fight for it, as President it is my right, as President it is my duty. The divergent interests should not divide us, this is why I believe every Haitian has a stone to put in the reconstruction of Haiti, it is together that we can do. That's why I consider admirably arranged the double commemoration of May 18, because today we celebrate both our flag and the university. The university is one of the centers of knowledge, and more one ascends in the scale of knowledge, the more we discover the unity of the soul, the unity of the human soul. The more we measure the inconsistency of prejudices, divisions, artificial divisions. The symbolism of our national May 18, strengthens me in my determination to make knowledge accessible to every son of this land and this will animates my plans currently being realized, of a generalized education to all girls and son of our country. I will continue to bring to the national education system at all its levels of education, a particular interest and constant. Because the success of my term, our collective success as a nation, requires universities to be built and strengthened. It passes through the centers of secondary education, such these schools that I implanted at various points of the country. It goes through the vocational training institutions as these specialized education units that I take pleasure to inaugurate, the multimedia rooms for access through the computer, to the universal knowledge. The various advances made to project in the university field and of course the free schooling that I brought to nearly one million of our children. Ladies and gentlemen, The other Haiti that I plan to flower, will not just strong in the professional point of view, more likely to open up channels to monetize our resources and development, but more importantly, will have to better integrate the message of the needle of Catherine Flon, message of cohesion obliged from which we replace us in the route traced by our fathers. Because more and better educated, we will more penetrated of imperative command, we'll sing with all the fervor of an acquiescence assumed the first sentence of our national anthem 'Pour le Pays pour les Ancêtre marchons Unis'.
