Haiti - Social : The Rector of the UEH, advocates for the national sovereignty (Speech) 20/05/2012 11:21:09
Speech of Rector of the UEH in Arcahaie "[...] Our flag carries through the time and successive generations the pathetic reminder of our suffering, our struggles, and of this decisive victory that has dedicated our lives to free people. This symbol materializes, forever, the consensual principle that forms the foundation upon which is built not only the birth of this nation, but also that of many others in the Americas. We are, in this May 18, 2012 gathered here in Arcahaie for this historic pilgrimage of celebration and commemoration of the highest human values, highlighted by the actions of our ancestors. Bravery, the transcendence of particular interests, solidarity and unity, as many concepts that we have inherited and of which we must regain our worship to energize our approaches to crisis resolution and reverse the rate of physical and moral destruction of our society. The association of the feast of the University to that of the flag was a special stowage, designed by Mr. Dantes Bellegarde, education minister of the time of the first U.S. occupation. And, the first feast of the University associated with that flag took place in 1920, following the decision of the Minister of Education to bring the government to publish the decree that establishes this pairing. At the time we had to undertake to protect and serve the youth of the extraordinary size of this core value on which our society is based, the creation of the flag. The creation of our two-color returns through the time the powerful symbolism of the unity of revolutionary action that will make triumph our struggle for freedom. The birth of our free society (1804) will change the face of the colonial world and slave. Haiti, proud and generous will export its ideas and methods by participating in many countries from the Americas to the removal of this barbarism initiated and imposed by European settlers. By revisiting this glorious past, we realize that the opponents of all kinds, have organized themselves into an effective blocking system, to divert fully the realization of our dream of equality, fraternity and solidarity (it was internationalism before the letter). Many works of historical research has highlighted these perverse action. Our country is now under a special regime of foreign occupation that justifies its legitimacy by our belonging to the United Nations. Sovereignty undermined, demeaned and ridiculed. This de facto occupation, while it lasts, is a serious handicap to the sharing of ideas of different groups in our society. The arbiter heavily armed of the occupants stirs our difficulties, because of the length, of powerful interests underlying to their presence and the procession of misfortunes that they causes. (Crime, spread of disease, hitherto unknown to us). Given the task entrusted to the University of Haiti to be the institution where the cult of the basic values of our existence as a people must be remembered, celebrated and taught it to us to make the call for their recovery, the call to the recovery of our national sovereignty. The sovereignty is an achievement, an essential asset in the implementation and the realization of acts of changing of social and cultural condition, of social and cultural condition, The Haitian society can not advance towards the emergence of solutions to his troubles in this situation of dependence blind. Today, even when we talk of interdependence, this interdependence should not question the bases, values and the foundations of a nation. Haitians University Students have never ceased to produce studies on alternatives to the major achievement of our ideals. A thought exists, it is organized and aligned. We must recognize that in some circumstances, it speaks so loud. But it reflects a dynamism that reflects its liveliness and the need for consideration of our responsibilities as citizens. In short, a set of bold initiatives able to get out our institutions from the shackles of a sectarianism demotivating and ultimately suicidal. It returns to the university to train competent managers with the expertise and know-how to act, managers honest, conscious of their civic responsibility and of respect for the res publica in order to use effectively and fairly the limited resources of this country. To succeed in the approach of regaining our sovereignty, the research, the innovation and the university education adapted must constitute the levers of empowerment of our future of people. These parameters must be subject to special considerations on the part of managers of the State. For its part, the university should seek to generate knowledge, and technical producing of wealth to create a strong and prosperous nation in the service of all and of the community at large. A higher education well framed and well oriented remains important to boost our patriotic impulses, gather the expression of the will, in order to bring the country out of this impasse. A university mobilized for a cause as noble and fitted with adequate means is a guarantee of success. The march for sovereignty, for a better tomorrow, is accompanied by multiple revisions of policy measures imposed by major international institutions and which have not yielded expected results. Economic reforms, privatization, business closures, austerity misguided helped to destroy the social fabric. They generated crises and helped to maintain the current climate of instability. Our University is challenged. It expects to be asked and to be assigned to tasks within its mission as defined by our constitutional charter. Students, teachers, shake the ranks for a university strong, autonomous and independent for the preservation of cultural values, scientific and technical and to fight against the archaic traditions sclerosing and the alienation.
