Haiti - Diplomacy : Laurent Lamothe, congratulates the new Dominican President 22/05/2012 09:17:37 The Electoral Council of Dominican Republic released Monday evening [8:30 pm] the final results that indicate that the new President Danilo Medina Sánchez received 51.21% of the vote, against 46.95% for his immediate rival former President of Dominican Republic, Hipólito Mejía (2000-2004). The Ministry of Communication of Haiti, had sent special envoys on site in the Dominican Republic to observe the elections. 6,502,968 Dominicans were registered on the electoral roll for the election of their new president as well as 7 deputies representing the Dominicans residing abroad, in one of the 14.470 polling stations available to them throughout the country. The participation rate was 70%. Danilo Medina Sánchez (61 years old, married, 3 daughters) degree in chemistry and economics, former President of the Chamber of Deputies between 1990 and 1994, former presidential candidate defeated in 2000 against Hipólito Mejía, former Secretary of State for Presidency gathered Sunday 2,325,50 million votes, against 2,129,997 million for his opponent, Hipólito Mejía. Monday, after the confirmation of his victory, the new President of Dominican Republic has declared its intention to strengthen the binational agreements with Haiti. The new Dominican President indicated that he would work on job creation, because Haiti has the highest number of unemployed in the region and also promised to adopt new immigration policies, such as the legalization of Haitian citizens.
