Haiti - Politic : The G9 against the publication of the amended Constitution
Tuesday, the G9, group of Senators [Andris Riché, Anick Francois Joseph, Francisco De La Cruz, Francky Exius, Jean-Baptiste Bien-aimé, Jean Charles Moise, Jean William Jeanty, Steven Irvenson Benoit et Wetzner Polycarpe] that had opposed to the ratification of the General Policy of the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, warned the President Martelly against an eventual promulgation of the amended Constitution, which could lead the country into a new crisis.

According to the G9 this decision to publish the Constitution is dictated by the international community whose they denounced the pressure on the government, which according to them, are a threat for the the nation and democracy. "The process was tainted with irregularities and fraud. The Constitutional Council which should decide not exist. Therefore, the amendments are null and void."

The Senator François Anick Joseph urges the Head of State not to yield to international pressure "Please Mr. President, do not publish this constitutional amendment. Because if you have an amendment in your hands, it's a fake."

For the Senator Francisco de la Cruz "This is not the time to try to legalize what is abnormal" saying rather favorable to the introduction of a new draft amendment, according to the procedure, during the last regular session of the 49th legislature.

The G9 appeals to parliamentarians so that they do not engage in "a shameful way" and intend to consult political parties and other organized groups of civil society to require collectively the ongoing constitutional review "Too stakes are involved in this constitutional amendment so that it is left to the discretion of some in a context so tumultuous and so little conducive to the taking into account of the best interests of the nation," stresses the G9.
