Haiti - Social: The Head of State invested Honorary President of the Scouts of Haiti
The President Michel Martelly, received at the National Palace in the afternoon of June 12, 2012, a delegation of the Scouts of Haiti came to invest him in his duties of Honorary President of the Scouts of Haiti.

According to Article 12 of the Charter of the Scouts of Haiti, the Head of State is, of fact, Honorary President of this institution, as recalled his President, Mr. Emmanuel Joseph Saint-Amour, who has symbolically passed the Scout scarf at the neck of President Martelly, officializing him in his new honorary duties. Two young scouts, Joewens Balde and Ketsie Sanon, presented a plaque of honor to the Head of State on behalf of the Scouts of Haiti.

The first act of the President of the Republic, as Honorary President of this association, was to award a medal to Donald Michel for his courage and heroic conduct during the earthquake of January 12, 2012. He had, indeed, demonstrated stoicism by amputating the arm of a police officer Dérat Peterson, who was then prisoner of the rubble of the police station of Delmas 33, to save his life.

The President Michel Martelly, who was a scout in his youth, said he was aware of the importance of values promoted by scouting such as citizenship, solidarity, respect for others among others, and promises to provide all possible support to the Scouts of Haiti for the realization of their noble projects.
