[...] They create a society at different speeds [...] In the country there are people who are totally Haitian and a little bit Haitian, now, we Haitians abroad, who are not totally Haitian [...] it is necessary that we do a debate on nationality or citizenship, we must do it in the country, in order to answer this question of nationality that is so far unresolved..." Learn more about some revised articles of the Constitution : "Article 18 now reads as follows: Haitians are equal before the law subject to the advantages conferred on native-born Haitians who have never renounced to their nationality To be a member of the Chamber of Deputies (Article 91); Senator (Article 96); President of the Republic of Haiti (Section 135), it is necessary be Haitian of origin, to have never renounced to his nationality nor hold any other nationality at the time of registration. It is an added article 172.1, which reads as follows: o be appointed Minister, it is necessary : 1- Be Haitian and furnish proof of having met all its obligations as a citizen domiciled in Haiti, own real estate that can ensure and protect the State and not hold any other nationality at the time of the appointment [...] Article 190ter.1 - To be a member of the Constitutional Council it is necessary : - to be native-born Haitian and not hold any other nationality at the time of the appointment [...] Article 11 of the Constitution of 1987 does not seem to have been altered : Possesses the Haitian nationality of origin, any person born of a Haitian father or Haitian mother who themselves were born Haitians and have never renounced their nationality at birth. Article 12 now reads as follows: Every Haitian, except the privileges reserved to the native-born Haitians is subject to all rights, duties and obligations attached to his Haitian nationality. None Haitian can prevail its foreign nationality in the territory of the Republic of Haiti."
