Haiti - Agriculture : Progress of activities of MARNDR
This Monday, June 25, the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR) hosted two events. The first was the installation of Dr. Michel Chancy, as Secretary of State for Animal Production. The second was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding of strategic importance of the agricultural policy of the Government, for the purchase and distribution of fertilizers.

Dr. Chancy who served as Secretary of State for animal production, for three years was extended to the post. The agronomist, Lionel Valbrun, Director General, recalled the many livestock projects that have emerged thanks to the dynamism of Dr. Chancy.

In his speech for the occasion, the Minister Jacques Thomas, who has proceeded to the installation of the Secretary of State, congratulated him to have once again deserved the overwhelming confidence of the President of the Republic and the esteem of the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe.

The Minister recalled how the contribution of the Secretary of State was precious for the Ministry, especially in the coordination of the program "Aba grangou". Concluding his speech by inviting Dr. Chancy to redouble his efforts and of combativeness in his work, to assist the Ministry of Agriculture to achieve the objectives set in the Agricultural Action Plan of four months, from June to September 2012, assigned by the Government.

The first words of the Secretary of State have been to thank the President and the Prime Minister and to ensure to the Minister Thomas, of his availability, promising to do everything in its power to achieve the objectives and projects contained in the action plan.

The second event was the signing of the MoU between the Ministry Thomas and the Haiti's agricultural private sector for the purchase and distribution of a stock of 15,000 tons of complete fertilizer, to be delivered to farmers at prices of 900 gourdes, the bag and 550 gourdes the bag of 100 pounds of sulphate.

Importers-distributors were satisfied with the negotiated terms of the MoU and assured the Minister, that few minutes after the official signing of the protocol, 5 trailers loaded with 820 bags each, will begin the distribution of fertilizers in some strategic points of wholesale.
