Haiti - Politic : The replacement of mayors began
Me Thierry Mayard Paul, the Minister of Interior and Local Authorities yesterday confirmed that the revocation process of almost all the 120 mayors elected in 2006, had begun. The names of the persons concerned by this measure are published in the official newspaper "Le Moniteur" has informed the Minister.

"...I confirm it, it is now published in 'Le Moniteur' [...] it's a decision that the Government has taken because we are going to elections and the government is very concerned about the transparency and regularity of these upcoming elections. We want to be sure that the people who will be there, will ensure that the elections are done properly in a transparent manner [...]

The thing to understand is that they were many who were dysfunctional, where there was only one person, places where some were gone or were sick, who left, who resigned... those, it's normal that we change them [...] once again, this is for better transparency in the elections [...] so, it is in the official newspaper and there are many cartels that have already been changed [...]"

Regarding elections, the Minister informed "...we have already formed committees with which we are already in relation. The Prime Minister made regular working meetings with the International Community, MINUSTAH, the U.S. Embassy etc... [...] is a decision that is taken and arrested by the Government. The Prime Minister is very serious on this subject, the Ministry of Interior is also very serious, the elections will be done !"
