Haiti - Environment : Strong winds and rain, extensive damage 17/07/2012 09:46:23
Extensive damage has been reported both in Port-au-Prince and in the provinces: uprooted trees, billboards and merchandising displays windblown. Significant damage was also reported to the plantations, in the municipalities of Arcahaie and Leogane. The sinking of a boat was reported in the Northwest, the four occupants were rescued by sailors according to CDGRD West. Following the heavy rains alluvium have invaded several streets and torrents of water on the roadway caused significant congestion, particularly on the road to Tabarre at the level of the American Embassy. A first assessment reported a victim [a young merchant of 28 years following the fall of a tree] and several wounded. Ronald Sémelfort, Director of the National Meteorological Center, called populations of exposed areas to be cautious and remember that cabotage operations are still banned on Tuesday.
