Haiti - Economy : «The gold rush in Haiti : ki yès kap vin rich ?»
As part of its conference cycle "Verité sou tanbou" the FOKAL, "Ayiti Kale Je" and ICFJ invites you, this Saturday, August 4th at 4:00 pm, at the screening of "The Gold Rush in Haiti : ki yès kap vin rich ?" (La ruée vers l’or en Haïti : ki yès kap vin rich ?), a video documentary in Creole conducted by the consortium of journalistic investigation "Ayiti Kale Je" on the issue of mining in the North of Haiti.

Extracts of documentaries made on the same issues, challenges and dangers in Latin America will also be screened. Following the screening, a discussion on the issue of mining in Haiti and Latin America will take place in the presence of the Ayiti Kale Je team, of the lawyer Maria-Elena Kolovos and of Camille Chalmers, Director of PAPDA.

Following the screening, the team of "Ayiti Kale Je" who carried out this investigation will speak of the progress of this work and the difficulties to achieve it. Maria-Elena Kolovos, a lawyer who works with a group of Haitian organizations that follow the mining activities in Haiti, will give an update on the legal aspects of mining in Haiti, while Camille Chalmers, director of the Haitian Advocacy Platform for Alternative Development (PAPDA), will place the issue in the context of Latin American mining.

Verite sou tanbou is a cycle of conferences and debates on the investigative journalism, organized by the International Center for Journalism, Ayiti Kale Je and the Knowledge and Freedom Foundation - FOKAL which began in spring 2011. Verite sou tanbou brings together journalists from different backgrounds, but also journalism students and ordinary citizens interested by issues of information. Screenings are made ​​of foreign films, as Haitians, who are still trying to evoke a reality experienced by Haiti or a practice of the trade that may interest journalists.
