Haiti - Politic : Electric emergency plan...
In recent months, Port-au-Prince, with the exception of a few privileged areas, which have a regular supply, undergoes a drastic rationing of power distribution, demonstrating the inability of the Electricity of Haiti (Electricité D'Haïti - EDH) to meet the basic needs of the population.

Wednesday, August 15, in the Council of Ministers, the President Martelly strongly denounced this situation "it is not normal that all neighborhoods of Port-au-Prince operate in total darkness at night, except of that where live the President !".

Faced with this deplorable situation, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe declared "In 2012, it is unacceptable that the people live in the dark. This is why a new management was installed to the EDH to carry out the government policy in terms of results," announcing that Andess Apollon, the new Director General of the EDH and her team will submit within a week, an emergency work plan, which will justify the use of $200 million of annual subsidy from the Government. . Laurent Lamothe said he did not rule out the possibility to reconsider the contracts for the purchase of fuel to private companies.

The Government has also indicated that it planned to use a part of funds of the next allocation of Petrocaribe, for the restructuring of teh EDH and that a project to install solar streetlights in neighborhoods, was planned.
