Haiti - Politic : The Head of State visiting the EDH
Thursday, the President Michel Martelly, visited the headquarters of the Electricity of Haiti (EDH), to take the pulse of the situation. He took the opportunity to extend its congratulations to the General Directorate and the entire team of technicians for having recovered quickly in working condition the 32 circuits of the metropolitan area taken out of service during the passage of Isaac.

During this visit, the President Martelly, in order to ensure the proper functioning of public service institutions, had fruitful discussions with Ms. Andress Apollon, the Director General, Mr. Dukens Raphaël, Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Wilson Selony, Technical Director, Mr.Alix Dominique Alexis, Director of Planning, Ms. Jean B. Carmitte Mentor, Chief Financial Officer and Mr. Rosnick Grant, Commercial Director. A new dynamic of the EDH, was at the center of discussions after which, important steps have been considered.

The Head of State has requested the development of an effective action plan, for a better distribution of electricity across the country It will be a progressive emergency plan," to achieve its vision within the EDH, remaining convinced of the ability and willingness of the new leaders to allow to the EDH to become again strong and prosperous as it was 25 years ago.

The President Martelly requested that drastic measures, be taken against those who interfere in one way or another, the proper functioning of the EDHand against all those who receive a salary, for which they do nothing, while the population continues to wait for results.

In her speech, Ms. Andress Apollon, the first woman in history to lead the company, declared "With President Martelly, EDH begins to benefit from the support expected for a long time," promising to make every effort to maintain order and provide better service to consumers. "We have worked tirelessly [...]"

For his part Alix Clerveaux, a technician who was speaking on behalf of his colleagues, thanked the Head of State for his willingness to change the country and renewed his support to the President, "The time has come for EDH plays his score." About the record of embezzlement within the EDH, Alix Clerveaux stated that "[...] innocents are in jail while the guilty are in the streets," reminding the President Martelly, that a Law on the fight against fraud is pending in Parliament since 2006.

Ms. Carine Colin, on behalf of Executives of the Electricity of Haiti has expressed her satisfaction with the fact that over 80% of funds of Petrocaribe are injected into the Energy sector, one of the priorities of President Martelly. Recall that the EDH, with its three axes of intervention (production, transmission and distribution), is subsidized by the Haitian government to the tune of 160 million U.S. dollars annually.

The Head of the State promised to accompany the EDH in order to provide a quality service to the people and declared "I have horror to see the dark continue to settle in the streets, in homes... This must change !"
