Haiti - Economy : Economic situation figures for April to June 2012 12/09/2012 10:23:13 Industry : Increase of 4.4% in the index of industrial production YoY (year on year) and 0.9% compared to the previous quarter. This quarterly progression result of a contrasting trends of various industries. Indeed, textiles, food products, non-metallic minerals and basic metal structures grew respectively of 12.1%, 2.1%, 6.2% and 8.8% ; by cons, manufacture of wood, publishing and printing (-5.7%) and of chemical products (-13.9%) have showed a downward trend. Energy : Increase of 23.7% of the index of the power generation YoY and of 9.0% compared to last quarter. This quarterly change was attributable to an increase in hydroelectric production (136.2%), against a decline of 6.8% of thermal generation. There is, however, a sharp decline in consumption billed 42.3% which contributes to an increase in the loss ratio and unrecorded consumption for the quarter. Construction : Increasing of 2.7% of the index of the construction activity YoY and of 3.1% compared to the previous quarter. The positive trend for the quarter is consistent with the increase in the quantity of imported cement. Domestic trade : Increase of 22.3% of the index of the commercial activity YoY and of 3.9% compared to the previous quarter. This quarterly progression in nominal value is supported particularly by the trade of vehicles, of food products, other consumer goods, equipment devices and of vehicle accessories, which grew respectively of 2.4 %, 7.2 %, 3.4 % and of 1.4 %. Consumer Prices : Increase of 5.2% in the index of consumer prices YoY and of 1.6% compared to the previous quarter. This quarterly progression is particularly due to the increase of items : Housing (2.2%), clothing (1.9%), food (1.7%), transport (1.5%). Moreover, the price index of agricultural products, on the other hand, increased by 10.4% YoY and of 0.3% compared to last quarter. Foreign Trade : Increase of 8.8% of the index of the average value of imports YoY and of 3.3% compared to last quarter. Similarly, the index of the total value decreased of 15. 7% YoY and 12.4% compared to quarter, which leads to a decline in the quantum of 22.5% YoY and a substantial decrease of 15.2% compared to the previous quarter.
