Haiti - Social : Tour in the United States of the Director General of the OPH 13/09/2012 10:23:11 On the sidelines of this meeting, the Minister Counsellor indicated that he will make positive recommendations to the hign American postal authorities in Washington, in order to engage in discussions on the assistance that could provide the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to the Post Office of Haiti, in terms of technical assistance and logistical support. During this working session Mr. Marc L. Desjardins is committed to coordinate an official meeting between the Director General of the OPH and his U.S. counterpart, in order to formalize a bilateral agreement in the field of mail, during the next congress of the Universal Postal Union, to be held in Doha, Qatar, in September. In the idea to strengthen the collaboration between two countries, the Minister Counsellor has wished to get the vote of Haiti, in favor of Mr. Dennis Delehanty, applicant to the position of Deputy Director General of the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). In addition, prior to this meeting, the Consulate General of Haiti in Miami, received Ms. Regine Godefroy for a press tour of 3 days. The Director General of the OPH informed on this occasion, that a comprehensive restructuring plan of modernization and of strengthening of services was under implementation since her installation at the head of the institution last July, and explained that postal services are now reliable to meet the needs of Haitians in the country and in the diaspora. In her interviews with the media, Ms. Regine Godefroy noted that the lack of infrastructure at the level of land registry and numbering of buildings nonexistent in the majority of popular neighborhoods, constituted a handicap, while promising to remedy this situation. So post offices will be installed soon within town halls across the country, in order to provide a unique address for residents of municipalities. Regarding the members of the diaspora living in the United States, she said that they will be able to place an envelope in their post office boxes (Mailbox) or in the various USPS offices throughout the United States, and that the mail or parcel will be delivered to their correspondents in Haiti, through the 23 post offices in the country. Regine Godefroy has also indicated that in the context of new information technologies and communication, the Post Office intends to propose new services to customers such as: postal bank (transfers, currency exchange, savings), ATM telecommunication (selling minutes and cards) the collection points for other state institutions (National Archives, DGI, EDH, tuition, rent and other).
