Haiti - Technology : GIS for the future postal codes 15/09/2012 11:25:11 One of the concerns raised by the audience was the inconsistency at the level of numbering used on the territory of Haiti. The experts noted the lack of standardization in the numbering of territory, which is performed by each entity according to its own criteria and concluded that the OPH should define itself, the operating criteria, that will lead to the development of a postal code efficient and adapted to all situations. GRIEAL experts have wished to specify that it would be interesting for the OPH to use the international international geospatial (GPS), to re-codify the postal code and make it universal. The verification of certain addresses and the delimitation of municipalities, will have to be done on the ground, which will provide consistent data usable by the government, particularly the Post. At the conclusion of this presentation, high level discussions have continued and it was agreed that the Directorate of Logistics and the Commercial Directorate, considering using the GIS program to identify the concentration of population, the geographical criterias, the road accessibility and also make more effective the deployment of postmans and moving vehicles. Thanks to this program, the OPH will also be able to identify, the existing infrastructure for the establishment of additional postal annexes. The Directorate of Planning and the Technical Department, considering using GIS to define of parameters and criteria for the establishment of a new postal code, based on the geo-spatial coordinates of Haiti. In response to this meeting, the experts of GRIEAL, have proposed to submit a proposal for the development and implementation of a plan, that will allow to better manage the operations of the OPH on the ground for the benefit of the entire population.
