Haiti - Social : Ady Jean Gardy reassures and obtains a truce in Les Cayes
During the last two days, Ady Jean Gardy, the Minister of Communication, gathered in Les Cayes most of the leaders of the press, of popular organizations and of the civil society and has obtained a truce of popular movements, concerning the agitation, that began to grow in the South.

After having gathered the notables of 18 municipalities and heard their critics, the Minister responded point by point, by providing accurate information on the achievements of the Government in the South. He mentioned among others, the recent creation of over 3,000 jobs in the poorest neighborhoods and informed that over 20 million dollars will help to achieve in the South, some important social projects, including the construction of 20 new schools in Department, 8 will be inaugurated at the beginning of class on Monday.

Ady Jean Gardy also recalled that since August 2012, 14 other new projects concerning infrastructure works and the construction of 102 social housing units totaling nearly $12 million had been launched. He also mentionned the opening of construction work on the new hospital Ofatma in Les Cayes, at a cost of $3 million, the new Medical Center of Tiburon and of Blood Transfusion Centre of Les Cayes, which is being funded by the Central Bank

The Minister of Communication, presented a renovation plan for the tourism sector with the technical assistance of an Interministerial Commission, spoke of redevelopment of Stadium of Land des Gabions to the tune of $3,7 million and the construction of a Multisport center in Les Cayes. He also insisted on the new orientations of the new Banque Populaire Haïtienne, by new credit packages for small and medium businesses in the South not to mention the new public markets constructed in Roche à Bateau or to the Anglais.

He recalled that the Government is currently funding interventions in the rivers of the South, in particular to Roche à Bateau (Rivière Rozier, 15 millions gourdes), at Coteaux, at Anglais and in Port à Piment, without forgetting the International Airport of Les Cayes that will be built in order to receive 19-seat aircraft at the beginning and then will be expanded to allow the landing of large aircraft carriers.

He concluded his presentation by making understand to the businessmen, that all these projects will not multiply if the enterprises in the South do not pay their taxes and refuse to do their tax declarations, noting that only 0.19% of all tax revenue are collected from the South...

The popular movements, have promised to the Minister to make return their troops in their bases to enable the Government Martelly-Lamothe to move forward, provided that the assessment of the promises be done without delay. Influential businessmen in the South, have encouraged the Minister, to continue his work of unifier, in order to facilitate the dialogue and the consensus necessary at the level of the civil society to restore peace in the city. hey believe that after the dialogue, the tension has already dropped.
