Haiti - Politic : The President Martelly met the diaspora in New York
On the sidelines on his participation in the 67th Ordinary Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, the President Michel Joseph Martelly, accompanied by the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, spoke, Wednesday evening, to the Haitian community of New York, in the Auditorium of Brooklyn College.

Hundreds of Haitians, artists, political groups and associations, have warmly welcomed the Head of State who took advantage of his visit to New York, to explain to these compatriots of the diaspora the numerous efforts of the Administration Martelly-Lamothe in order to to meet their expectations and those of the Haitian population in general.

In the presence of fifty political figures, including the Ambassador of the United States in Port-au-Prince, Pamela White, the Ambassador of Haiti in Washington, Paul Altidor, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pierre Richard Casimir and representatives of the consular Corps of Haiti to the United States, the Head of State promised to fully assume its responsibility for solving problems that hinder the development of the country.

His address to the New York community, of about five hundred thousand inhabitants, has focused on various topics related to the Haitian Diaspora, whose the issues of dual nationality.



The President Martelly has recalled the progress in the Universal Schooling Program Free and Compulsory, the accompaniment of students beneficiaries, the introduction of vocational training at the secondary level and the intensification of activities of school buses. He also reflects the progress in higher education, stressing that 22.000 students of the State University will annually receive financial support from the Haitian government ; of the University of Limonade opened with a vision that tends towards the professionalization of the system and of school feeding program that boosts.

About the reconstruction, the Head of State noted that the Toussaint Louverture International Airport and that of Cap Haitien were undergoing renovation and modernization ; indicated that 6.000 jobs will be created with the opening of many services at the Caracol Industrial Park (North) and that 3.000 houses and a industrial park will be built at Morne Cabrit, with the possibility to create over a thousand jobs.

Stressing the need to respond quickly to the problems of insecurity in Haiti, which prevent our compatriots to visit their homeland in peace, the President Martelly, who had, on the morning of Wednesday, a meeting in this regard with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, has promised to strengthen the National Police of Haiti and establishing a professional, modern force.

After a minute of silence in memory of one of our fellow musician Jacques Ardouin Chancy, who died in Haiti following a heart attack at the beginning of September, the Head of State has honored twenty personalities of the diaspora for the work they accomplished to the benefit of the Haitian community.
