Haiti - Reconstruction : Inauguration of road infrastructure work in Petit-Goâve
Thursday, October 4, the President Michel Martelly, accompanied by the Ambassador of the United States, Mrs. Pamela White, of the engineer Philippe Cinéas, Secretary of State for Public Works and MM. Pierre-Antoine and Louis Florentino Latortue, went to Petit-Goâve where he inaugurated of road infrastructure work in the presence of the Departmental Delegate of the West, Mr. Gonzague Day, of Ministers of the Interior, Mr. Ronsard Saint-Cyr, of National Education, Mr Pierre Vanneur, of Communication, Mr. Ady Jean Gardy, of Deputy Stevenson Thimoléon and of the mayor of Petit-Goâve, Ms. Sandra Gilles.

The Head of State, assisted by the U.S. Ambassador, has first inaugurated the rehabilitation of the street Hatte, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to the tune of 1.49 million U.S. dollars, which allowed the rehabilitation of one of the busiest street of the town on a length of 1.25 km. The Head of State, always accompanied by Ms. White has also opened another section of road, made by the Ministry of Public Works connecting the street Hatte to the National No. 2.

During these events, several thousand people have renewed their confidence in President Martelly, chanting "President Martelly, the city of Petit Goâve supports you," "your 5 years will not be negotiated," while others castigated the behavior of Senator Moïse...

Taking the floor, the Head of State declared "[...] Most of those who criticize me and who spread the bad news, were in power and did nothing. Today, I try to improve the situation of the people and they set all sorts of obstacles. They would do better to help me meet the needs of the population, instead of criticizing me [...] politicians talk while I work [...] Before the end of my term, I will ensure that all children are in school and that the Haitian have access to electricity [...] In regard to the high cost of living, we must change our habits, we must consume everything that is local [...] We will relaunch the domestic production [...] I will always keep my campaign promises !"

During his address to the population the President Martelly, has shown sensitivity to the claims of Petit-Goâviens and announced for soon the beginning of construction work of the city's Warf.

On foot, the President then went in the middle of the crowd and rara bands, at the Deputy Thimoléon where he attended a reception...
