Haiti - Health : Message of Sophia Martelly 10/10/2012 09:15:23 "I am aware of the problems faced by this sector which deserves attention. We have worked to improve the situation of the mentally ill. Together with the Secretary of State for Public Security, we have produced concrete results." The call center 177, with the slogan "Tèt Poze, Kè Poze" was established. This program, that covers only the mentally ill bare and violence in the streets, gave priority to the area of the airport in Port-au-Prince. About 50 people were 'collected' within this perimeter. Two cases were reported in Petit-Goâve. The most striking case is that of a septuagenarian that was sought by his family in Cap-Haitien and which has been finally found in Port-au-Prince, thanks to this program. Patients are initially taken to the clinic of the street Oswald Durand to be evaluated. Depending on their condition, they are then transferred to Beudet. An awareness campaign was also conducted among the population in order to avoid cases of lynching of elderly visibly suffering of Alzheimer, accused however of "Lougawou". The First Lady will take all necessary measures, alongside the President Martelly, to significantly reduce the presence of people with mental disabilities in the streets. She invites the citizens to continue to call for free from any phone the number 177 to indicate the presence of a mental illness in their immediate environment.
