The CNVH honors the memory of Dessalines The National Confederation of Haitian Voodoo Practitioners (CNVH) honors the memory of Dessalines and intends to commemorate the 206th anniversary of the death of Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines. On this occasion, a symbolic funeral ceremony will be held at the Champ de Mars (Square Dessalines), this 17 October, followed by a peaceful march through the streets of the capital. However, "the CNVH warned all political opportunists in order to not use this event for political purposes," declared he priestess Euvonie Auguste, Head of the CNVH. Conference debates on Dessalines A conference-debate will be pronounced Wednesday, October 17, 2012 by the deputy director of the New School Zoranje (Prodev) on the theme "The death of Jean-Jacques Dessalines and his sociopolitical outcomes in Haiti.This activity will be held at 32, rue Waag, between the streets Capois and Magloire Ambroise, will also be marked by the sale-signature of books of several Haitian authors : Viviane Gautier (Haïti en accent aigu et d’autres titres) ; Haveson Florvil (Les couleurs de l’avenir) ; Elisabeth Jolicoeur (Courage Haïtaï) ; Montimat Murat (Rêverie Vœux de bonheur) ; Widner Moïse (Labas Gran Dyòl) ; Saintony Fanfan (Le crime de l’ingratitude) ; Herold Jean Toussaint and his team (Communication et diplomatie femme et citoyenneté) and Dominique Batraville (Journal de Toussaint Louverture suivi de Kilomètre zéro). Conference-debate "Scars of Dessalines" The Institute of African Studies and Research of Haiti (IERAH / ISERSS) organizes Wednesday, October 17 at 10:30 am in the auditorium located at 92, corner of the streets Lafleur Duchêne and Avenue Christophe, a conference-debate on the theme "Scars of Dessalines." This debate will be moderated by Dr. Deborah Jenson, a teacher at the "Duke University", Haiti specialist and member of the Research Centre "Haiti Humanities Laboratory" whose work on Haiti are internationally recognized. In addition, she has published several books and papers on Haiti and especially on the meaning of the initiatives of Jean-Jacques Dessalines and Toussaint Louverture. Mass in memory of the "Founding Father of the Haitian fatherland" On Sunday 21 October, the Haitian Catholic Mission of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Consular Mission invite the faithful of all religions, to a mass that will be celebrated in memory of the "Founding Father of the Haitian fatherland". After the religious ceremony which will take place at 5:30 pm at the Church of Our Lady of Peace, located at 7801 South Jeffrey, Chicago, a reception will be offered in the basement of the church. The Consulate General of the Republic of Haiti in Chicago relies on the presence of a huge number of compatriots to enhance the brilliance of this event.
