Haiti - Social : The Program «Ede Pep» launched
Saturday, the Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe went to La Plaine du Nord, where he launched the new social program "Ede Pep", on that occasion he distributed 2.500 baskets of solidarity to the inhabitants of La Plaine du Nord. During his visit he took the opportunity to meet the Mayor of the Plaine du Nord, Cride Joseph and the Deputies Etienne and Jean-Baptiste.

"[...] We came today with a large part of the Government in the Plaine du Nord, this demonstrates the importance of the Plaine du Nord for us, we came to see what problems you have, sit together in respect and dignity, and look at what we can do for the Plaine du Nord [...] we know that things are not easy, that is why we have chosen to launch the program 'Ede Pep' a basket of solidarity [...]

I heard the problems that there are, I heard the problems of road, the 3 kilometers of road, the Government is committed to do them for you. You have 59 cattle that were stolen [500 since 2010] [...] I asked the Chief of Police, all police officers, all authorities to take all steps to ensure that theft of livestock stops, and to make all the arrangements immediately.

We today, 2,500 people tha twill receive a basket of solidarity, and it is only a beginning, it is a symbolic gesture, because we will go in all departments in all cities of the country to help people, which is in misery, seeking a better life, and the Government must do what it can to bring this better life.

[...] We'll get back with the program 'Ti-Mamman Cheri', which for its part will benefit more than 2.500 moms in the Plaine du Nord, the Deputy of the zone made the request and we will give it [...] but I must tell you something, in the same way that it is not easy for you, it is not easy for the Government.

The Government has come up with very little money, but we will take in this small money that we have to share it with you who are in the necessity [...] I also want to let you know that the President Martelly works day and night to be able to provide solutions and change in the city, thus, in addition of 3km road, there are electricity problems in the area and we will install 30 solar streetlights across the Plaine du Nord [...]"

Sunday, returning on the basket of solidarity, the Prime Minister gave more details on the program and the origin of products that are in the basket of solidarity "[...] the basket contains products that we buy locally. The rice, the Government with the associations and with the private sector, we are going in associations and we buy rice Torbeck, so in each basket of solidarity, there are 3 pounds of rice Torbeck. Corn we buy it in the Northeast, the salt that is in the basket, we buy it in Gonaives, the peas at Anglais, the spaghetti and tomato paste we buy from local producers in Port-au-Prince [...] this will create economic activity in each area where these purchases will be done... [...]

This is a program that will have 50.000 beneficiaries each month [...] The idea is to buy in different local markets, to revive these markets and redistribute these baskets in areas where there is a lot of hunger and misery [...]

Yesterday [Saturday] we began with the Plaine du Nord and we'll have a calendar, so that 50,000 people can receive a basket every month, so there will be less hunger among beneficiaries [addressing more particularly to the peasants] this way we can guarantee you a certain production and you will be able to produce more, because you will have an income."
