Haiti - Diplomacy : Commemoration of the United Nations Day 25/10/2012 13:07:51 Thanking everyone for their contribution to the stabilization and reconstruction in Haiti, Mr. Mariano Fernández stated that "men and women of the Minustah, will continue to provide an important support in the strengthening of the National Police Haiti and other institutions essential to the functioning of the rule of law in Haiti." recalling that to continue to support the Haitian people and their government in their efforts for a Haiti more stable, democratic and prosperous and to achieve these goals, the most entire support of the Haitian population is essential. To mark this day, teams of Public Information of the UN Mission, have visited schools in the capital and some cities of the country such as Cap-Haitien, Fort-Liberté and Hincheto present the work of the UN and of teh Minustah. Documentaries and reporting illustrating the concrete achievements of the Mission within communities were broadcast during these meetings. In his message, the Special Representative noted that the achievements of the Minustah in terms of security in support of the Police Nationale d'Haiti, are obvious after eight years of work of the Mission in Haiti, noting that the efforts, aimed at strengthening the rule of law to consolidate peace, which is installed so far, should be pursued "The quest for ways to facilitate dialogue and consensus among Haitians is a key factor in the construction of a self-sufficient country, with democratic institutions capable of meeting the challenges that the country is currently and will face in the future [...] The Minustah sincerely hope that the efforts for economic recovery and job creation can continue, which will allow a gradual reconfiguration of the Mission of Peace in a political mission of the UN, which would put the emphasis on the rule of law and human rights," indicated the Special Representative. Echoing the words of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Mariano Fernández reaffirmed "...our individual commitment and our collective resolve to live up to the ideals of the United Nations Charter and build a better world for all."
