Haiti - Social : First colloquium on the fight against extreme poverty
Marie Carmelle Rose-Anne Auguste, the Delegate Minister of Human Rights and the fight against poverty, announced this week, the holding the first Colloquium on extreme poverty in Haiti, around the theme "Think and fight against extreme poverty". This 4-day colloquium, which runs from November 6 to 9, in the room Franck of the Hotel Montana, will bring together all stakeholders involved in the fight against poverty: development experts, representatives of civic organizations, international agencies and donors.

The objective of the Colloquium is to provide a space for intense dialogue and discussions on the best strategy and interventions to be undertaken in the context of the fight against extreme poverty. It should allow to explore new forms of action, closer to vulnerable populations and more concerned of their active involvement in order to lead Haiti, in 2016, to a reduction of the poverty of 51.1%, currently at 40%.

The Colloquium will be an opportunity to put the citizen mobilization at the heart of the actions and programs against poverty and discuss of strategies for reconstruction of our economy, by the adoption of new forms of support, of promotion and of revaluation of domestic production, both in terms of trades, than at our most promising sectors and engage the country in this great battle against extreme poverty, which constitutes a serious handicap to the reconstruction and to the economic and social development of country.

The opening ceremony will be marked by the official speeches of Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank, the former Dominican President, Leonel Fernández, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe Salvador and the President Michel Martelly.

The Colloquium will include three components :

- A presentation of the state of affairs and knowledge on extreme poverty, its measurement and indicators in Haiti : Think extreme poverty

- A perspective of the fight against extreme poverty by foreign specialists and Haitians

- Workshops on various topics related to the fight against extreme poverty and social exclusion

After the Colloquium a declaration in the form of resolution could be adopted as a solemn commitment to the fight against extreme poverty.
