Haiti - Reconstruction : The administration of Hugo Chavez promises its aid to Haiti

Venezuela is the first friend country, as part of the South-South cooperation to have provided assistance to Haiti in the wake of passage of Sandy, that devastated more than 90,000 hectares of crops and damaged many infrastructures in the country.

Recall that President Chavez sent by air last Monday 14 tons of non-perishable food, followed Friday by the arrival of a ship of emergency assistance with on board 530 tons of non-perishable food and 116 tons of heavy equipment to help remove the rubble.

The administration of Hugo Chavez promises to help Haiti. According to Pierre-Richard Casimir, the Foreign Minister, the first phase of a major project of 4,400 homes, valued at $200 million, was approved between the two countries. The first phase will include the construction of 1,200 houses in Duvivier.

Some projects will be strengthened in the context of the tripartite cooperation Venezuela-Cuba-Haiti, whose the increasing of the generation capacity of power plants of Gonaïves, of Cap-Haïtien and of Carrefour.

The Minister Casimir, also confirmed that Venezuela would build an important community center in Cite Soleil, a project that will be led by Marie Carmelle Rose Anne Auguste, the Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for Human Right and the fight against extreme poverty.

A Venezuelan technical mission should go to Haiti from December 2, in order to finalize some of these projects.
