Haiti - Social : Reduce of 11% the incidence of extreme poverty by 2016
Tuesday, November 6, 2012, the President Michel Martelly officially opened the first colloquium on the fight against extreme poverty, organized by the Office of the Minister Responsible for Human Rights and the Fight Against Poverty [Ms. Rosane Auguste] under the theme "Think and fight against extreme poverty in Haiti".

The ceremony took place in the presence of Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, the Senator Dieuseul Desras Simon, President of the National Assembly, Ms. Rosane Augustus, some members of the Government, the Diplomatic Corps, Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President of the Bank World, of actors involved in the areas of human rights and the fight against poverty and some of the beneficiaries of social programs of government.

The objective of the colloquium is to provide a space for dialogue and discussion on the best strategy to adopt and on the interventions to undertaken within the framework of the fight against extreme poverty. It should also allow you to explore new forms of action, closer to vulnerable populations and more concerned of their active involvement. This will also be the opportunity to put the citizens mobilization at the heart of the actions and programs against poverty and discuss of strategiesfor the recovery of our economic fabric by the doption of new forms of support, of promotion and of revaluation of domestic production, both in terms of trades than at the level of our most promising sectors in order to reduce from 51.1% to 40% the rate of extreme poverty by 2016.

Mr. Jim Yong Kim, reiterated the commitment of his institution and promised to work with the Haitian government, "Mr. President, Mr. Prime Minister, Haitians and the whole world look at you while you drive this great Nation towards a better future. Be audacious, be ambitious, we will be at our side ! But Haitians are are watching too, us, their partners, to see if we will keep our promises."

Dr. Kim has announced that "The World Bank will also provide a year's rent for 60,000 people displaced by the earthquake in the next 15 months, as well as vocational training.

The Head of State believes that it is inconceivable in 21st century, that parents wonder what they will give to their children to eat during the day "I am unable and I'll never be able to reconcile myself to the idea, of accepting this painful observation, that there is still in this country, fathers and mothers rising in the morning, without any hope of feeding during the day, their children."

"The challenge of eradicating extreme poverty is immense and complex. We are aware that we must, in addition, take measures to strengthen democratic institutions, restore the security of persons and goods, prevent and combat the corruption and protect the environment."

For his part, the Prime Minister promised to continue working for the welfare of the Haitian people "In my general policy statement, I was committed to fighting fiercely against extreme poverty and social exclusion. Fight against unemployment, the blackout, for a Haiti more just. Extreme poverty is a major challenge for the government."

The various social programs have a place of honor in the intervention of President, who is convinced that the latter, provide relief to the Haitian people while specifying that the Government is working in order to structure these programs to better help people.
