Following a convening of the Senate Committee on Telecommunications, Jean Marie Guillaume, Director General of the National Council of Telecommunications (CONATEL), accompanied by Jacques Rousseau, Minister of Public Works, Transport, Energy and Communications appeared before the senators.

For Jean William Jeanty, President of the Commission, the objective was to provide an update among other things, on the quasi monopoly of the company Digicel in Haiti (since the acquisition of Voilà) and the free competition with the company Natcom.

The Senator Francky Exius, Member of the Commission, accuses the Government of having favored the Company Digiciel, among others in transactions via "tchocho mobile", concerning various social programs, to the detriment of the company Natcom, in which the State is a shareholder with 49%...

Responding to the intervention of Senator on the free competition in Haiti, the Director General of CONATEL, avoided answering the question directly, evoking that it was not within the competence of regulation of CONATEl, to take part for a individual operator. However he acknowledged that the Natcom had all the potential to compete with the services of Digicel, adding that in his point of view, the Natcom however, lacked maturity in business...
