Haiti - Social : Protest movement among students
Following the tragic incident happened Saturday evening at the Faculty of Law and Economics (FDSE) that caused the death of the student of 4th years, Damaël D'Haïti, the student community reacted strongly.

Monday, Damaël comrades, joined by many other students from the State University of Haiti (UEH), sparked a protest movement to demand justice. The situation was particularly tense on Avenue Christophe and near the Faculty of Law, where were erected barricades of burning tires, chairs or garbage by angry students

Pascal Adrien, Student Representative to the Council of the UEH, launched an appeal to the mobilization of students to obtain justice for their comrade shot down in circumstances not yet clarified.

According to preliminary information gathered, it appears that the incident occurred after an altercation between the young officer and the victim, Damaël D'Haïti. However, investigations are continuing to shed light on the exact circumstances of the tragedy.

For its part, the Council of the State University of Haiti (CUEH), in extraordinary session, on November 12, 2012, condemned in a statement signed by Jean Vernet Henry, Rector of the UEH on behalf of CUEH, this act committed in the precincts of the faculty and asked the university community to show moderation.

"This abominable crime and unacceptable shows the contempt for human life that continues to haunt the country. The Council of UEH, note that this action occurs in a context marked by a series of acts committed in the past two years and remained remained so far unpunished (disappearances and assassinations of students, of teachers Serge Bernard and Jn Anil Louis Juste, acts of intimidation of the security forces...) While understanding the collective protest of students, the Council of the UEH invites the university community to the moderation, vigilance and caution, as well as the public authorities to guarantee the exercise of civil liberties.

The UEH will take all necessary steps to that justice is done to Damaël D'Haïti. To this end, the Council of UEH took the following resolutions :

1) Establishment of a Commission to shed light on the conditions under which the police officer perpetrated this murder and to follow up this case ;

2) Establishment of a board of lawyers, to assist parents of the victim ;

3) Arrest of operation of the UEH Tuesday, November 13, 2012.

The Council of the UEH take this opportunity to present his condolences to the family and friends of the victim, to the university community, which mourns one of their own and requires that justice is done."
