The President Michel Martelly met with his counterparts from Honduras, Mr. Porfirio Lobo, and the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina, as part of XXII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, held the 16 and 17 November 2012, in the city of Cadiz in Spain.

With Honduran President, the discussions focused on access to education and environmental protection. Honduras will send next week experts in the field of environment. The latter will work with Haitians at reforestation. The two leaders discussed the possibility for Honduras, also to grant scholarships to young Haitians, at the National School of Biological Sciences in Honduras.

The two Presidents, while promising visits, discussed of the integration of Haiti into the SICA (System Integration of Central America). Honduras, in favor of this initiative, suggested to Haiti to ally with Nicaragua and Costa Rica in this process, and pleaded for an entrepreneurial meeting with Haiti.

To the Dominican President, the Head of State of Haiti has requested a special attention in favor of Haitians. A request welcomed by Danilo Medina who, while denouncing the existence of a criminal network operating at the border, reassured that adequate measures will be taken.

The cause of Haitian students in the Dominican Republic, was also mentioned. President Medina pledged to cancel the illegal payments required for these students to cross the border, despite their visa.

The issue of reforestation has been at the center of discussions between the two Heads of State. The Haitian Minister of the Environment must go to neighboring Republic to investigate the possibility that Haiti make the experience of Dominican program "Kiskeya green".

The meeting also allowed to return to the issue of the importation of Dominican meat in Haiti, President Medina thanked the Head of State for the reopening of the market, while highlighting the audits conducted by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Ministry of Health Dominican.

Reconstruction work developed by the Dominican Republic, the possibility of a visit by the First Lady of the Dominican Republic to Haiti, participation in Haiti in 2013, of President Medina at the Summit of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), were also on the agenda of the two leaders who have agreed to carry out new projects on the island.

This 22nd Summit is an opportunity for President Martelly to demonstrate its objectiv, to open the doors of the Haitian economy to foreign investment, strengthening the presence of Haiti in international organizations "It is high time to give Haiti its leading role in international organizations," indicated the President Martelly.
