Haiti - Social : Prisoners commemorate through the art their notions of freedom and justice 11/12/2012 11:14:55 In addition, at the National Penitentiary, four days of writing workshops and painting (4 to 7 December 2012) was organized by the Office of the Minister Delegate, allowing inmates to verbalize, write and paint, in their own way the essence of the notion of freedom and justice. Speech to the inmates, by the Minister Auguste "Dear brothers incarcerated, It was important to us that you have a clear idea of your rights, by carrying the certainty, that they will be guaranteed and respected by the authorities beyond your condition of people in detention. The experiment carried out with you for four days of learning in workshops of painting and writing, is enriching and carrier of perspective of humanity ; and it proved to be a success for you and for the government. In this regard, I wish to express my gratitude to all those who have contributed in one way or another, thinking particularly at the National Penitentiary Administration and to the team of social assistance, to the Animators of writing and painting workshops the writer Marvin Victor, painters Walgens Pierre Jean and Mathieu Jean Baptiste, to the Organization Gade Devan Quebec and especially to all prisoners who took part in the exercise. This approach of my Office supported by the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister had the objective to bring to you the liberating power of art and writing, so that your work liberate you of yourself, by removing negative energies accumulated. It is difficult to be positive while being deprived of his freedom of movement and having four walls for horizons. But the freedom to think that you have in common in your cells is by essence creative of spaces of projection of self on other levels where it is possible to achieve. In this regard, we would like so that this exercise is for you an open door on of tomorrows singing of freedom and positive achievements for the society. We won the bet to lead you on the path of the artistic and literary production, for having taken into account your right to personal development and rehabilitation. The Administration Martelly/Lamothe in the manifestation of its firm commitment to promote and protect the rights of all and of marginalized groups in particular, began to emphasize the scope of the rehabilitation and of development of the creative potential in the process of social reintegration of persons deprived of liberty. The exhibition of the day constitutes in this regard the vibrant testimony of the manifestation of the creative power within you. Your paintings are wonderful of beauty and your writing each one more penetrating than others. You have painted and written to dilute your complaints between lines and shapes, in order to find new reasons to reinvent the liberty still elusive but so grasped at the discretion of emotion and imagination. In conclusion I reiterate you today the moral support of Government to your rehabilitation and its commitment to protect your rights, but beyond of this expression of commitment, I would like urge you to continue on the path of the mprovement of your behavior towards each other, to live in love, brotherhood and solidarity, because it is the price of the true freedom."
