Haiti - Justice : Inauguration of the new CSPJ headquarters
Wednesday, Mrs Pamela White, U.S. Ambassador in Haiti participated in the inauguration of the Superior Judicial Council headquarters (CSPJ), on the road of Frères, joined by members of the institution and invited guests.

"The inauguration of the Superior Judicial Council’s headquarters highlights the Government of Haiti’s commitment to an independent judiciary and the rule of law, both of which form the foundation for Haiti’s stability and security. A CSPJ that works and is committed to a Haiti that does not tolerate corruption or bribes will attract the investors and investments that Haiti needs to create employment. The United States Government is proud to be a partner with the Government of Haiti in supporting these efforts," declared in her speech the Ambassador White.

The U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is helping the Superior Judicial Council by strengthening its skills, systems and organizational processes to more effectively administer the judicial branch. "We are pleased to be donating needed furniture, office equipment and computers to further improve your work environment. Through this and other support, we continue to be committed to the goals of the Government of Haiti in creating an independent and functioning judiciary,” Ambassador White continued.

"The launching of the CSPJ in July 2012 marked a historic moment for Haiti’s judicial system. The U.S. Government applauds this great accomplishment today which strengthens Haiti’s legal system and paves the way for a Haiti that protects human rights, provides safety for its citizens and creates new economic opportunities."

According to Ambassador White, the commitment of the authorities to the rule of law and consolidation of democratic institutions will attract international investment and help improve the well-being of the Haitian people. This commitment contributes to a more just and prosperous Haiti for all.

The Ambassador added "that in partnership with the Government of Haiti, the U.S. Government’s top priorities are to help create much needed jobs in Haiti, attract foreign investment and improve the capacity of Haitian institutions. A Haiti that respects the rule of law and is based on solid democratic principles will make it possible to reach these goals [...] We are proud to work together with the Haitian Government to make Haiti the successful country it deserves to become. Today’s inauguration of this facility is an important step towards that end."

Anel Alexis Joseph, the President of the Superior Judicial Council for his part highlighted the importance of the CSPJ, saying that this institution, to the great satisfaction of judges, fills a very important gap, thanking USAID for helping the CSPJ reach such an important milestone. He said he counts on the support of the U.S. Government to support the CSPJ in its important work. "Your support enables us to be here today to better organize the court system. We look forward to continuing this collaboration in the interest of Haiti’s democracy and development, because providing justice raises a nation, and at the CSPJ we are focusing on providing that justice."

At the conclusion of the event, guests took a tour of the new CSPJ headquarters.
