Haiti - Politic : Laurent Lamothe back from Venezuela is satisfied
Thursday afternoon, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe returned from his mission of 2 days in Venezuela. Upon arrival at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport, the Head of Government made a statement to the press, to summarize the positive impact for Haiti.

"[...] We return from Venezuela with a delegation composed of Pierre Richard Casimir, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rose-Anne Auguste, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister in charge of human rights and the fight against extreme poverty, Michaël Lecorps, Director General of the Office of Monetization of the Programme of Development Assistance (BMPAD) [...] they accompanied me to Caracas, where we spent two days of intense meetings, where we participated in events.

We started with a closed-door meeting with the Vice-President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, which went very well. Then we had a meeting in private with 19 Heads of Delegation, Presidents and Prime Minister of Caricom and Latin America, where the Vice-President, gave us a description of the state of health of President Chavez and gave us an analysis of the situation in which is Venezuela today. He reassured everyone and stated that the institutions will work, the court of the Supreme Court ruled yesterday [Wednesday], which says that President Chavez can swear to any date later than originally planned [Thursday, January 10], allowing the Venezuelan government toi enter in function, constitutionally and in a lawful manner.

We also had a meeting with the Vice-President of Cuba, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador and President of Suriname. We took advantage of these two days to strengthen Haiti's relations with the countries of Caricom. Haiti will receive the first summit of Caricom February 18 to 20, so we took the opportunity to tell them that the President Martelly is ready to receive them [...]

Today [Thursday morning], we attended another meeting of Caricom and in a second step, the meeting of PetroCaribe allowed the Minister of Energy of Venezuela, to present a new plan very interesting. He spoke to make an economic zone integrated with the different countries that are part of Petrocaribe now, which will allow countries to trade goods and services. So Venezuela has petroleum for example, Haiti can have bamboo, so they send us petroleum and we send them bamboo to repay petroleum with various agricultural products, it also allows us to strengthen our agricultural production.

We had a bilateral meeting with Ecuador, where we made an inventory of the various projects that are underway, we expressed our satisfaction, then we had another meeting to discuss an agreement for food security. We know that the question of the stability of food prices is something that we must closely manage, so we took the opportunity to sit with Ecuador to be able to implement a strategy to have a food security agreement with them. Same thing with Argentina, they invited us to come to Argentina as part of an agreement on food security. Foreign Affairs Minister, with the Director of BMPAD and the Ambassador of Haiti to Venezuela, will represent us at this meeting, so that we can move forward on an agreement of food security.

We talked about our strengthening in Petrocaribe, the Vice-President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, publicly reaffirmed that he supports Haiti at 100% and he will support us in the coming years [...] he reiterated us his full support and absolute, ans we made the same thing in return. There is really a solidarity between the two countries, we know the good relations between Venezuela and Haiti, we will continue like this, we will continue to understand the problems that Latin American countries have, that they understand the problems that we have in Haiti, and we will get together to address these problems with solidarity, mutual understanding and respect.

I made an emphasis on the word respect, because during these two days, we felt that the Venezuelan people, the smallest official to the ice president, even the President have total respect for Haiti, they love Haiti. We can not be indifferent to that, today [Thursday] I spoke to a crowd of about 50.000 to 75.000 people [...] where I really gave a thank and express our gratitude for everything that Venezuela made in Haiti, and everything they will continue to do in our country.

In summary, everything went well [...] quickly, very professional, I think that the results are there, we strengthened our position in Petrocaribe, we also have two new agreements with Ecuador and Argentina in food seurity [...]"
