Haiti - Health : Balance sheet of MSPP

Dr. Florence D. Guillaume, Minister of Health, presented his balance sheet for the last fiscal year (2011-2012). Despite the difficulties, the MSPP has managed to continue some of its objectives and fulfill its mission to ensure the health of the population.

During this presentation, the Minister reiterated her willingness to stand for everything that does not reflect the national interest "Today, we are talking about out of the logic of projects of NGOs, to move towards the establishment of equitable care system and accessible to the entire population of the territory," hence the development of the project of organic law submitted to the Primature to be finally presented to Parliament.

During this period, the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP), has developed several programs including "Manman ak ti moun an sante" which helped to subsidize the care of nearly 12,000 pregnant women and 32,000 children under 5 years. More than 2.9 million doses have been administered to children aged 9 months to 9 years in the fight against measles and rubella. Also 3 million doses have been administered to children 0-9 months as part of the vaccination campaign against polio. The MSPP has also launched a campaign screening of precancerous lesions of the cervix and the training of executives to the maternity Isaïe Jeanty and to the Hospital of Milot. 17 executives have also been trained for the implementation of this service in large health centers, with a strong demand for maternal care.

As part of its various embodiments, the MSPP, had consistently advocated the decentralization among other :

Construction of a maternity and renovation of infrastructure of the Hospital of Carrefour (West) ;
Construction of CTC of Hinche (Central) ;
Construction (in progress) of an emergency room at the Hospital Sainte-Thérèse of Miragoâne (Nippes) ;
Rehabilitation of the pavilion to house the new emergencies in progress to the HUJ of Cap-Haitien (North] ;
Renovation of the Emergency hospital in Gonaives (Artibonite) ;
Redevelopment and construction of the Hospital Saint-Pierre de Corail (Grand-Anse) ;
Rehabilitation of 16 health institutions (Northwestern) ;
Opening of a new health center in Carice (North East) ;
Adoption of an agreement of principle for the construction of a second hospital in Jacmel (South East) ;
Signing of a contract for the rehabilitation and extension of Madame Bernard Centre in Ile-a-Vache (South).

Note that the achievements of the MSPP has been possible thanks to the support of several countries, including Brazil, Cuba, Canada, Japan, France, Venezuela and several UN agencies (UNICEF, UNAIDS, etc...)
