Haiti - Politic : The Minister Jean-Jacques Charles pays tribute to women
Thursday, at an event organized at Karibe Convention Center, as a prelude to the celebration of March 8, the "International Women's Day," Charles Jean-Jacques, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labour (MAST), gave a well deserved tribute to the employes women of the Ministry.
Recalling the efforts of the Administration Martelly-Lamothe, aimed at promoting the participation of women in government, the Minister assured his citizens woman, of the support of the team in power, to the promotion of women's rights and their participation in economic and political life of the country.

"For the year 2013, the United Nations have chosen as the theme for International Women's Day 'A promise is a promise'. It is time to take action to end violence against women," declared the Minister, who said see in this theme, a call to action, a theme that appeals to everyone at the highest point, since we know the situation of violence faced by the female gender especially in Haiti.

Honored to partner with the joy of executives and employees, both courageous and laborious of MAST on this occasion, the Minister Jean-Jacques, admitted that every day for these brave women of Haiti is a struggle, and assured them the full support of the Ministry which is fully committed, according to him "to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable groups of society, including children and women."

Yanick Étienne, representative of "Batay Ouvrye" has organized a talk on the theme "Women Workers" in which she denounced the non-enforcement of laws relating to the protection and rights of women in the workplace, deploring the absence of legal texts on harassment in Haiti. the feminist activist, said she had observed no progress concerning the claims made in 2012 by the organizations involved in the protection and promotion of women's rights. o solve this problem, she believes that "the MAST must initiate a dialogue with its women employees in order to solve some of the problems they face," announcing that a tripartite meeting on the reform of the Labour Code on this phenomenon, between feminist organizations, parliamentarians and the government is expected soon saying to be optimism about the benefits of the next assizes.

For her part, Yolette Mengual, representative of the "Network of Women Candidates", during a talk on the theme "The feminist movement in Haiti," made the history of the feminist movement in the country. Placing in its context the celebration of the "International Day of the Woman" she explained that the idea of ​​creating a Women's Day, was launched in 1910 by the German activist Clara Zetkin at the second international conference of women Socialists in Copenhagen [formalized by the United Nations in 1977]. She acknowledged that there was still much to do in the field of women's rights and equality, recalling that according the International Labour Office (ILO), if the proportion of women in the labor force has increased significantly over the past 30 years for equal work, they are often paid less than men.

he ceremony ended in a festive atmosphere and the Minister Jean Jacques wished a happy celebration of the "International Women's Day" in solidarity, in the pirit of sharing and Peace.
