Haiti - Politic : Expanded Troika meeting of the CELAC 08/04/2013 13:33:41 It should be stressed that the Expanded Troika is the Governance body of the CELAC, which plays an important role in the planning of activities and the representation of the institution, in its international relations. It is composed of Cuba, President Pro Tempore for the current year, Chile, outgoing President Pro Tempore, Costa Rica, President Pro Tempore for the year 2014 and Haiti as President of the CARICOM. During this meeting, the Foreign Ministers received the report of the Presidency Pro Tempore on the activities already carried out during 2013 in the areas of education, culture and the environment. They then took decisions about the timing of other activities planned for the year 2013 in the Santiago Plan of Action, adopted by the Heads of State and of Government at the first Summit of the Community in January 2013. Thus, significant ministerial meetings will take place in various countries of the region in the areas of energy, finance, drug trafficking and crime. Haiti will host for its partthe meeting of the Working Group on the tariff preferences between the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean to a date be determined later. The monitoring of the resolution adopted by the CELAC, on the cooperation with Haiti was also on the agenda. The Chancellor Casimir made a presentation on the ongoing cooperation with member countries in the priority areas of the environment, agriculture, infrastructure, tourism and job creation. The Ministers agreed on the necessity to include the cooperation with Haiti, on the agenda of the 5th Meeting of National Coordinators, which will take place in May, after having received more concrete ideas of the Member States in the fields in which they wish to strengthen their cooperation with Haiti. In addition, the Foreign Ministers took decisions on issues such as the strengthening of activities and links with the Caribbean States, the cooperation with regional institutions such as the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean-ECLAC and the Economic System of Latin America (SELA), and of international policy issues of CELAC.
