Haiti - Tourism : Things are moving on all fronts in the tourism sector
The tourism sector is gradually put in place : visit of Canadian journalists to promote the destination, awareness workshop of the Caribbean Biological Corridor, program of classification of tourist establishment, implementation of the Tourist Police and discussions of the airline JetBlue to launch a daily flight to New York and Port-au-Prince are some of the activities of the past few days in the country.

A group of Canadian Journalists visiting Haiti :
Wednesday, the Ministry of Tourism has welcomed a group of Canadian journalists came to assess the tourism product of Haiti. This Eductour, is part of the partnership agreement in promotion of tourist package signed last December between the Ministry of Tourism and the Canadian tour operator Transat, which brings tourists each month in Haiti since January 2013. The objective of this Eductour is to explore the touristic potential of the destination in order to promote them to their respective audiences.

Canadian journalists will stay in the country from 10 to 17 April and will visit of sites in Port-au-Prince, Cap Haitien and the Côte-des-Arcadins. In the capital, they will visit sites like Boutillier, the Haitian National Pantheon Museum (MUPANAH) and the Iron Market. The journalists also will fly over, through their tour, Cap-Haitien where day trips await them before finishing their tour of exploration on the Cotes-des-Arcadins.

The visit of these journalists reinforces a policy to promote the package, initiated by Transat, since the recent visit of nearly 20 Canadian travel agencies in Haiti.

Awareness workshop of the Caribbean Biological Corridor
In addition, the Northern Regional Office of the Ministry has recently participated in an important Workshop on awareness of the Caribbean Biological Corridor, organized by the Departmental Directorate North of the Ministry of Environment attended by directors of different departments of the North, NGO representatives, the PNH-North and of socio-political associations. According to officials from the Ministry of the Environment who realized this workshop, this initiative will contribute significantly to improve the cultural and touristic space in Haiti.



Program of Classification of tourist establishments :
Charles-Rony Bernier of IBI Group participated this week, in a training session of inspectors of Program of Classification of tourism establishments of the Ministry of Tourism, the training focused on ICT.

Tourist Police :
Tuesday, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, met some officials of the Ministry around the establishment of the Tourist Police.

JetBlue interested in a route between New York and Port-au-Prince :
The Consul General of the Republic of Haiti in New York, Charles Antoine Forbin, accompanies a delegation of five representatives of the airline JetBlue to Port-au-Prince, of members of government services and airport security of JetBlue, to initiate steps to launch a daily flights between New York and Port-au-Prince before the end of the year.

This decision of JetBlue to carry out a mission in Haiti was taken at the end of successful negotiations conducted by the Consul General Forbin with the Management of the airline. The Consul General Forbin had undertaken these steps in order to help his compatriots, especially those who have to travel frequently to Haiti for family reasons, to take advantage of low cost fares offered by JetBlue. According to the Consul General, the addition of this route between New York and Port-au-Prince, will certainly benefits to our tourism.
