Haiti - Politic : Laurent Lamothe met Ban Ki-moon
Thursday, Laurent Lamothe, met in Washington DC., Ban Ki-moon Secretary-General United Nations. They discussed the current situation and the work of the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in Haiti.

Ban Ki-Moon encouraged the Prime Minister to undertake every effort to hold long overdue partial legislative and local elections before the end of the year. The Secretary-General also called on the Government of Haiti to reach out to all sectors of society in order to forge an urgently needed consensus on the way forward.

The Secretary-General reiterated the United Nations' commitment to support the Government of Haiti in its fight to eradicate the cholera and urged the Government to take appropriate measures on the issue of camp residents at risk of forced eviction.

Ban Ki-Moon also called for momentum to eradicate poverty and achieve the Millennium Development Goals, whose deadline is 2015.
