Haiti - Economy : Towards a revision of taxes and rental taxes in the tourism sector 24/05/2013 11:12:22 Jean-Baptiste Clarck Neptune, he Director General of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI), invited by Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, to take part in the meeting, said he believes in the need to harmonize the relationship between the private sector and the tax authorities. Mr. Neptune advocates for the publication of a memorandum for the interpretation of the law on Land contribution of Built-up properties (Contribution Foncière des Propriétés Bâties - CFPB) which, he says, weighs heavily on the hotel owners. This memorandum must precede the passing of a final law in terms of taxation on rental tax and events. In addition, the Minister of Tourism has encouraged stakeholders to present their grievances to the Tax Administration, saying that his ministry was ready to follow up, about the suggestions made by operators in the tourism sector, among government entities. For her part, Mrs. Josette Darguste, the Minister of Culture, has announced the holding on 10 and 11 June at the Hotel Montana, of assize under the theme "The culture in the taxation". This assize which will be held jointly by the Ministries of Tourism, Culture and Economy and Finance with the tourist and cultural operators, will analyze the possibility of a revision of taxes, including that imposed on cultural events.
