Haiti - Social : «The time has come for the peasantry» dixit Father Sicot
Friday at the National Palace, Father Antoine Occide Jean, aka Father Sicot, ethnologist and sociologist, after having been decorated by the President Martelly, of the National Order of Honor and Merit, to the Grade of Grand Officer, for his contribution to community development https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-8695-haiti-culture-4-artistic-personalities-received-the-national-order-of-honor-and-merit.html delivered a rousing speech.

Speech of Father Antoine Jean Occide :
"Tank you Excellence to honor us with such a great distinction. Such a gesture can only rejoice the peasants of our 10 departments, especially the 5,500 supporters and 4,500 sympathizers, spread across the five communal sections of Kenscoff.

His Excellency,

What you expect of us, it is the success of an integrated rural development in order to convince the Haitian peasants, that they can and must assume the responsibility of their future. The best way to mobilize them, to lead them to progress, is to be able to offer them a living model, tangible and palpable. Says them that if the peasant of Kenscoff can, they can too. The secret of our success is to have gathered everyone: Catholics, Protestants, voodoo.

In this vast overall movement, the time has come for the peasantry : it has its leader. Because in this country, our country of Haiti, where more often we only criticize, disparage, demean, humiliate, has emerged a man of your ilk.

His Excellency,

To repeat Mircea Eliade, 'your way of being in the world' reflects the necessary union and mandatory to the advancement of any nation. This union if necessary, to use Stove, to the start-up and take-off of our beloved Haiti and which, moreover, constitutes our motto 'Unity is Strength.'

His Excellency,

Honest men, serious and lucid see by your actions, your determination to extinguish the fire with fire. In fact, you are currently, through your social works : Free school, Ede Pèp, Ti Manman Cheri, the development of streets and roads and electricity, extinguish the fire of hate with the fire of love. Hatred that divides, giving birth to resentment, revenge, the dichotomy. The love that unites, supports, assists and supervises which alone can remake Haiti, now gall of Caribbean, what is was before the 'Pearl of the Antilles'.

His Excellency,

If you sometimes you feel cornered, misunderstood, stay strong and courageous, because as Christ said in Gen. 15:18. 'If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you'.

His Excellency,

We are all aware and I can say it without fear of contradiction by anyone, your deepest dream is, in the manner of Lula, former President of Brazil, to restore to Haitiits rightful place on the world map, that of the first free and independent black republic. And here I want to quote Nelson Mandela 'The duty of a true leader is to identify the men and women and assign them the task of serving the community'.

His Excellency,

Despite winds and tides, continue, continue your mission of benevolence and charity for the Haitian nation, and in a special way for the poor, needy and marginalized. Because in Psalm 41, 1 to 3, it is written 'Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them in times of trouble.'

Bondye beni Prezidan an, Premyè Dam nan, tout fanmi Prezidan ak Premyè Dam nan e tout manb gouvènman li-a.

Amen, Ayibobo, Beni swa Letènel"
