Haiti - Diaspora : Tribute to a Haitian legend of medicine
As part of its annual event to honor a Haitian national who has distinguished himself in Quebec in the exercise of his profession, the Consulate General of Haiti in Montreal informs that a tribute will be paid in its premises, to the famous Dr. Yvette Bonny, Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 5:00 pm.

This year, the Consulate of Haiti in Montreal has chosen this great figure of the Haitian intelligentsia under the label "A woman, a work" in order to salute her outstanding achievement in the medical community and for being the first in Quebec, to successfully transplanted bone marrow, followed by numerous other interventions of this kind in Eastern Canada.

For several years, Dr. Bonny that combines professionalism and family responsibility, leads a fight without respite against physical childhood diseases, such as anemia, leukemia and cancer, and her contribution has reversed of psychosocial problems experienced by young Haitian adolescents, made of her a living legend in our community in Montreal. Her outstanding achievements in medicine have risen her t the highest peak of her profession, earning distinction over distinction :

1977 - Award "Madame Pédiatrie" for the most appreciated person in the department of pediatrics at Maisonneuve-Rosemont;
1986 - Excellence Award of the Haitian Community of Montreal in medicine category;
1993 - Award Tribute and Merit of the Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad (AMHE), for her contribution to the radiation of the medical profession and the Haitian community ;
1993 - Award of "Médecins de Cœur et d’Action" of the Association of French-speaking doctors in Canada;
1995 - Hematologist of the year for her special contribution to teaching and research in hematology;
1996 - Woman of Distinction, Category Health YWCA ;
1997 - Honorary citizen of the city of Montreal;
1998 - Award Sylvio Cator, energy model and success;
1999 - Knight Honor and Merit, Government of Haiti;
1999 - Professor (1999-2000), Department of Medicine, University of Montreal;
1999 - Order Honor and Merit to the rank of Knight of President Préval at the occasion of the week of the Diaspora;
2000 - Doctor of Merit of last 20 years (Actualité Médicale);
2000 - Millennium Prize Women, Health, Human Rights;
2004 - Professional of the Year (Jackie Robinson Prize) Montreal Association of Black Business Persons and Professionals;
2004 - African Canadian Achievement Awards;
2006 - Recognition Award of the CNDP (Council of Physicians, Dentists and Pharmacists) of the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital;
2007 - Knight of the Order of Quebec ;
2008 - Member of the Order of Canada;
2012 - Medal Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

Yvette Bonny was born in Haiti, 20 July 1938. Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Haiti, she emigrated to Quebec in the 60s and specialized in pediatrics at Ste Justine Hospital. In 1970, named pediatrician haematologist at Hospital Maisonneuve-Rosemont, she will have the heavy responsibility of leading the provincial unit of bone marrow transplantation in Quebec from 1980 to 1998. At the beginning of this new career, in April 1980, she succeeded the first bone marrow transplant in Québec ; feat she repeated with the same gusto in Eastern Canada.
