Haiti - Diplomacy : Alex Jospitre, Consul of Haiti in Suriname 04/07/2013 10:00:19 Consul Jospitre evoked a historic event. "The fact that Suriname now has a Haitian consulate is an extraordinary event [...]" From now, for the Haitian community living in Suriname [nearly 5,000], this Consulate will prevent them from going abroad to extend their passports and allow them to obtain other official documents on site. Suriname plans in turn to open its consulate in Port-au-Prince on July 19 of this year, fulfilling a promise made by President Desi Bouterse and his Haitian counterpart Michel Martelly during his visit to Suriname in March. "Opening offices in each other's countries will allow an intensified cooperation. When air traffic between the two countries gets off the ground more plans can be implemented," declared the new Haitian Consul. SL/ HaitiLibre
