Haiti - Diplomacy : Alex Jospitre, Consul of Haiti in Suriname
After 36 years, the Haitian community in Suriname finally has a place where it can get the services of its country. The new Consulate of Haiti in the center of Paramaribo (Suriname), led by the Consul Alex Jospitre [40], was inaugurated Tuesday by Pierre-Richard Casimir, the Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs, in the presence among others of Winston Lackin Minister Foreign Affairs of Surinam https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-8926-haiti-diplomacy-opening-of-the-consulate-general-of-haiti-in-paramaribo-suriname.html

Consul Jospitre evoked a historic event. "The fact that Suriname now has a Haitian consulate is an extraordinary event [...]" From now, for the Haitian community living in Suriname [nearly 5,000], this Consulate will prevent them from going abroad to extend their passports and allow them to obtain other official documents on site.

Suriname plans in turn to open its consulate in Port-au-Prince on July 19 of this year, fulfilling a promise made by President Desi Bouterse and his Haitian counterpart Michel Martelly during his visit to Suriname in March.

"Opening offices in each other's countries will allow an intensified cooperation. When air traffic between the two countries gets off the ground more plans can be implemented," declared the new Haitian Consul.
