Haiti - Economy : Index of Consumer Prices June 2013 24/07/2013 10:58:55 This deceleration in inflation is due to the moderate increase in almost all the functions of consumption and especially the contraction of 0.1% of the "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" function that represents more than 50% of the household budget. The index "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" +0.4%, "Health" +0.2% and other functions "Rent Housing, Energy and Water", "Management, equipment maintenance of housing", "Transport", "Leisure, Entertainment, Education and Culture" and "Other goods and services" increased by only +0.1%. The increase in the index of "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" is following the upward trend of items : Fabrics +1.4%, suit, jacket universal +1.0%, pants for men +0.6%, dress +0.5% and T-shirt for women 0.9%. The inflation in the function "Health" is mainly due to the rising cost of prescription glasses +0.2%, doctors fees +0.5% and hospital costs +0.1%. Finally, the decline recorded of the index "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" results primarily of negative variations in items such as: Spaghetti -0.3%, beef -1.5%, salt herring -0.8%, cod -0.9%, unsweetened evaporated milk -0.4%, banana -0.5%, giraumon -1.7%, cabbage -0.7%, lemon -7.3% and refined sugar -0.3%.
