Haiti - Reconstruction : Electricity 24/24 in Marmelade and Saint-Michel de l'Attalaye
On Friday, President Michel Martelly, carried out a visit to the towns of Saint-Michel de l'Attalaye and Marmelade in the Artibonite in order to see the progress made, particularly in the field of electrical energy. Indeed, the inhabitants of Marmelade and Saint-Michel currently receive electricity 24/24 produced by the hydroelectric plant of Péligre.

In order to promote wellness in vulnerable families, the Head of State promised to provide a subsidy to 25 women to start small businesses and 25 farmers so they can increase their production.

In Saint-Michel de l'Attalaye, town of over 130,000 inhabitants, several other projects related to housing and to the road and administrative infrastructure will be executed including the finish of the public square, the construction of the Lycée of Saint-Michel, the adoquinage of streets. In addition, 9.2 million gourdes are already available for the construction of the Peace Court.

Accompanied by his advisors, former Senators Youri Latortue, Joseph Lambert and Michel Clérié, the Head of State also visited Marmelade, a city plunged into darkness for several months, again enjoys the benefits of electricity. The rehabilitation of the drinking water system, including the repair of two tanks of 175 cubic meters and 60 cubic meters [total capacity of about 60,000 gallons], the construction of a kiosk of distribution and the rehabilitation of 6 others were funded by the Treasury to the tune of 1,193,675.00 Gourdes. In addition, a sports center with basketball courts and of Football is also under construction.



During his visit to Marmelade President Martelly met former President René Préval, with whom he visited the local manufacturing plant of bamboo furniture. The Head of State congratulated the workers for the quality of their production, the packaging unit and processing of citrus.
