Haiti - Politic : Historic visit of the President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) 14/08/2013 10:23:23 At the seat of the presidency, the two leaders met face-to-face on the new directions to be given to the cooperation between the two countries and of monitoring of commitments made by the authorities of both countries. During this workshop, President Martelly spoke business opportunities for Taiwanese investors in the fields of tourism, housing and energy and appeals to direct investments in job-creating sectors. Following this meeting, in a joint press conference at the National Palace, the President Martelly and Ma Ying-jeou reiterated their commitment to further cooperation between the two countries. On behalf of the Haitian people, the Government and on his own behalf, the President Martelly thanked the Government and people of Taiwan for their commitment to participate in the development and reconstruction of Haiti "Your official visit to Haiti today is a eloquent testimony of good cooperation and friendship that has always united the two countries for more than half a century. It reflects once again the commitment of the authorities and the people of Taiwan to the Haitian people," declared the Head of State. For his part, the President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has expressed his satisfaction for having visited Haiti for the first time, that he describes as "so beautiful country." He warmly congratulated the Haitians for the warm welcome he received and renewed his commitment to continue to support the Haitian people. Taiwanese President highlighted the possibility for the country to invest in the South of Haiti, particularly in the field of tourism. Overall, measures will be taken announced President Ma Ying-jeou to promote Taiwanese investment in Haiti. Taiwanese President welcomed the support of the Haitian government on the international stage for the cause of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The press conference was followed by the laying of the first stone, by the two Presidents, of the construction work on the building of the Court of Cassation on the Champs de Mars, which follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 12 June for the amount of 4,275,000 U.S. dollars for the reconstruction of six public buildings destroyed by the earthquake in January 2010.
