Haiti - Reconstruction : 47 km road between Port-de-Paix and Jean Rabel renovated
After 8 months of work, initiated in late November 2012, 47 km of road from Port-de-Paix to Jean Rabel (North West), have been totally renovated and officially opened this week, in the presence of Regional Director of the Ministry of Works public, transport and communications, the Mayor of Port de Paix, the Director of support services at the Minustah and the Commander of the Indonesian contingent of the UN mission.

With this work, carried out by an Indonesian military engineers contingent of 167 men, now it will take less than 2 hours instead of 4 to make the trip between Jean Rabel and the head of the department.

47 km long, this road was in poor condition, limiting the conditions of access and movement of the 150,000 inhabitants of the area. During heavy rains, the road was often flooded and impassable, isolating a large part of the inhabitants of the rest of the region and the country. Thanks to this work, which consisted of smooth, strengthen and enhance the road, the latter remains workable even in case of rain. The drainage channels were also cleaned and repaired.
