Haiti - Politic : Restitution workshop on quotas of at least 30% of women...
Friday at the Plaza Hotel, was held a Workshop of two days, of the Multisectoral Technical Committee (COTEM), organized by the Ministry of Women and Women's Rights (MCFDF), in partnership with the Minustah main partner of the multisectoral committee in the organization of this workshop of reflection, UN-Women and the European Union, in support of the quota of at least 30% participation of women in political life, in order to encourage the application of legal provisions in this field.

Recall that the "Table Topics Genre (TTG)" is not an independent entity, the MCFDF and a representative of civil society assume the role of Secretariat and of Regulator and convene quarterly meetings.

Speech by the Minister Yanick Mézile :
"[...] The struggle for the emancipation of Haitian women initiated in 1934 by the Women's League for Social Action has allowed the female gender to obtain the right to vote in 1950. Other battles have been fought over the years to achieve the adoption of the Decree of 1982 granting equal rights between spouses and by the same time of the Haitian woman a full citizen.

The struggle for recognition of the rights of Haitian women has resulted in the creation in November 1994, of the Ministry for the Status and Rights of Women and the protest movement in 1986 through the Great March of Women.

The 1987 Constitution amended in its Article 17.1, devoted respect for the principle of quota of at least 30% women in all areas of decision-making power.

Today, we must make every effort to implement this constitutional provision. It is in this sense that the workshop of today has been designed and programmed to educate and motivate more women leaders from across the country so that they can actively engage in the process of their integration into political life and thus reduce their unequal representation in the public life.

It is clear that compliance with the quota of at least 30% can not solve alone the problem of non-representation of women in decision-making spaces. However, during an election period, for example, the application of this principle will influence the outcome of an election, namely to ensure that a certain number or percentage of seats were won by women.

The Martelly administration and Lamothe Government have made the issue of gender and the promotion of women's rights one of their priorities. As proof, more than 40% of women now occupy high positions in the central administration of the state. However, the work to be done is huge, because it is not normal to have only 5% of women in the House of DEPUTIES AND 0% of women in the Senate of the Republic. To overcome this situation, the MCFDF will work tirelessly in synergy with all stakeholders both nationally and internationally, including women leaders, who want to go in elections to win, the networks of women's organizations that are involved in the promotion quota and political parties so that they can be educated to introduce more women candidates.

Also, it comes to each of us to work with our sisters from cities and provinces to really engage in the fight, knowing that it is their duty to promote the effective implementation of this quota.

Map profite okazyon sa-a pou-m raple nou chak ki la-a ke se fanm yo ki pi plis nan sosyete-a kidonk si nou byen oganize nou nap pote la viktwa nan batay pou fe respekte Kota 30% fanm yo pou piti nan tout nivo.

I would like to thank, on behalf of the Ministry the Minustah in a particular way and Multisectoral Technical Committee Members in support to Quota for the political participation of women, for their great contribution in the realization of this Restitution workshop on quota of at least 30% women.

That these two workshop days in their content, may enable the Haitian woman to play its full role in the process of national reconstruction and contribute to the construction of the rule of law advocated by the President of the Republic, His Excellency Michel Joseph Martelly and of rime Minister Laurent Salvador Lamothe.

I wish good participation and good work to all and everyone.

I declare open the workshops."
