Haiti - Reconstruction : The European Union commits for 532 million euros 13/09/2013 12:24:23 The Prime Minister took the opportunity to draw a picture of the situation in Haiti and discussed the perspectives and expectations of cooperation with the European Union (EU). Mr. Vimont recalled that beside the European Development Fund (EDF), there was a stability instrument capable of mobilizing funds on issues of public and civil security. The Prime Minister was then received by Andris Piebalgs, the European Commissioner for Development. This meeting focused on the allocation of €112 million from the 10th EDF and an envelope of €420 from the 11th EDF, for a total amount of €532 million. Commissioner Piebalgs hoped that the signing of the Convention takes place in the shortest possible time on the sidelines of the 68th UN General Assembly in New York later this month in order to affect €112 million in the form of budgetary support on projects selected by the Government. Prime Minister Lamothe, welcomed the willingness of the European Union (EU) for its contribution to the reconstruction of the country and is committed to putting in place the mechanisms necessary for a rational, controlled and effective use of funds. Moreover, the Prime Minister was also received by the Haitian community in Belgium around a cocktail in a warm atmosphere. He took this opportunity to present the main achievements of the Government through an acclaimed video that led to numerous exchanges.
