Haiti - Politic : First working day of Laurent Lamothe in New York
Arrived in New York on Sunday evening, at the head of a large Haitian delegation to attend the 68th Ordinary Session of the UN General Assembly, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe attended the same evening at a reception in honor of delegations by President Obama.

Monday, Laurent Lamothe began his first day in New York, by a meeting with Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank, which was attended by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, the President of the Republic of Malawi, Joyce Banda,Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Haile Mariam Dessalegn and Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama.

This working session was intended to create a body to monitor development projects in developing countries, who know all the same problems (often donors pose their conditions without ensuring real priorities of recipient countries). This proposal for the creation of a body to monitor projects, of the President of World Bank and of Mr. Blair, was welcomed by the participants who did not hesitate to share their experiences and to seek the creation of a common mechanism likely to solve these problems.

Prime Minister Lamothe, then met his Kosovo counterpart Hashim Thaçi who was accompanied by his Foreign Minister, Enver Hoxhaj. Discussions focused on the status of Kosovo, which wants the support of Haiti to benefit from the support of CARICOM member states in the UN. They wanted to go to Haiti to continue the discussions and eventually explore avenues of cooperation in the field of education, on this point, the possibility of granting scholarships to Haitian students was discussed.

The discussions continued by meeting with Enrique Garcia Rodriguez, the President of the CAF (Bank of Development in Latin America). It was question to provide an update on the amount of 25 million U.S. dollars promised by some Member States to finance development projects in Haiti. Recall that so far, only the Colombia had paid its estimated at $1 million contribution.

The Head of the Government of Haiti, after having thanked Mr. Garcia and the Member States, proposed to name the fund "Support Programme and of Solidarity to the Republic of Haiti" and made a presentation of the various social programs implemented by the Haitian Government. For his part, the President of the CAF wished to come to Haiti.

In the evening, the Prime Minister responded to the invitation of U.S. President Barack Obama and his wife as part of this 68th regular session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
